Sunday, July 16, 2017

Three militants were killed in an encounter with Indian forces in a forest area of Tral in Pulwama district of south Kashmir, police officials said in Srinagar on Saturday.

While two of the militants were killed in the morning, another was hiding in a cave on the hillock in a Gujjar basti of Wantwon forests of Tral. He was killed bringing the gunbattle to end.

Police identified the two militants killed in the morning as Ishfaq Ahmad Khan of Hundura, (Tral) and Mukhtiyar Ah Lone of Harpura, Ameerabad (Tral). The third militant has been identified as Hassan bhai from Pakistan.

As per police officials, Ishfaq was Category A militant and had joined militancy on 25th March 2017 while Mukhtiyar Ah Lone was Category C militant and had joined militancy on 15th June 2017.

The encounter began in the forest area of Wantwon Satoora on Saturday morning after the forces laid siege to the area on specific information about presence of militants in the area.

A joint party of 180 Bn CRPF, 42 Rashtriya Rifles and Police’s Special Operations Group (SOG) Tral was involved in the operation.

In the afternoon, as the encounter was underway, a video clip was doing rounds on social networking site, WhatsApp, showing four dead bodies of militants surrounded by army men. While two bodies along with big rucksack bags are shown lying on the road, the third body is being brought by the locals, probably from the gunfight site. The clip also shows fourth militant’s body lying in a rivulet nearby.

Protests erupted in Satoora village during the encounter, in which several youth were reportedly injured who were taken to PHC Aripal. Mobile internet service was barred in Tral area during the encounter.
